The TV series "All Creatures Great and Small" was filmed at a number of locations throughout the Dales (and in a London studio, no doubt), but the village of Askrigg was the set for Darrowby and contained Skeldale House (the home and veterinary office of James, Siegfried, and Tristen), as well as their local, the Drovers Arms (the Kings Arms in real life). Skeldale House is a privately owned, rather dull stone building, but the "Drovers Arms" is a nice cozy pub, well worth a stopover for a pint. According to local legend, the Hole of Horcum was formed when a giant scooped up a handful of earth to throw at his wife.
Another oldie.. I'm reckoning I won't be getting many new photo's until next week, if I'm lucky.. So I apologise if you've already seen these oldies but there are a lot of folks who haven't.. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A simple shot.. needed the gate to be open to invite the viewer in.. yet another thing to remember when taking a shot :-)
Looking up at Bolton Castle from within the gardens. Bolton Castle is a medieval fortress built by Richard le Scorpe in the 14th century in the small village of Castle Bolton, in Wensleydale. The castle sits halfway up the valley in the midst of the Yorkshire Dales, saw action in the Civil War and was used as a prison for Mary, Queen of Scots. The castle is still owned by the same family who built it and is now used as a tourist attraction, with rooms bedecked in medieval finery, regular falconry shows and staff dressed in period costume.

Malham Cove waterfall in North Yorkshire has been dry for hundreds of years but appears to have been brought back to life by Storm Desmond this weekend after heavy rain helped it to flow again.
A cosy 'snow hut' in Dent in the Yorkshire Dales, with England's highest station on the doorstep, brings out the Railway Child in Stephen McClarence.
